2000 focus is running loud and making weird noise?

My 2000 ford focus seems to be pretty loud. When outside the car, it sounds perfectly normal, but inside the vehicle it sounds like a car with no muffler almost. It doesnt change when using the a/c, and it starts when i first start, or when im accelterating. but it doesnt always happen when accelerating because sometimes i can hear the normal engine noise but then the loudness kicks in. if that makes any sense. but it stops when im idling or in park. It seems to be coming from the front penger side. Any ideas as to what it could be? Also when i go over some bumps in teh road, it sounds kinda like something is dragging or scraping. I looked under the car and found nothing hanging.
