I think your just over-whelmed by what he said. It isn't a shocker, after all that means a lot. I can tell by what he said he did not mean it as a game or easy going. Saying that means they place their complete trust in you, and giving you their heart, meaning they love you. It's pretty corny, but I think it is sweet.
